28-30 September Member of Ukrainian Parliament Valeriy Pysarenko will represent Ukraine on the 25th session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) in Geneva.
Delegations from international governmental and non-governmental organizations, representatives of the gas and the largest energy companies of UNECE member countries will also attend the Session.
The main theme of the session - energy and environment in the context of "green" economy, as well as the discussion of issues that should be illuminated over the world until 2030 to ensure energy sustainability.
"There is a first gap between current actions taken by governments and the commitments they have made and a second gap between their commitments and the ambition of limiting temperature rises to well below 2°C. Over half of the 2°C budget has been “spent”, and at current emission levels the remainder will be spent within the next five years. This situation calls for profound and immediate changes in how energy is produced and consumed", - stated in the agenda.
During the Session it is planned to find concrete solutions how to change the current energy system, how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy conversion to mitigate climate change, how to ensure the reliability of energy supply and to make energy services affordable.
In future these recommendations will form the basis of the project " Pathways to sustainable energy " and the outcome of the 25th session.
During the Session of the Committee practical tools how to help countries to develop national implementation of sustainable development action plans will be represented.
