Member of Ukrainian Parliament, Valeriy Pysarenko participated in the opening of the Ministerial Conference and the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development", organized under the auspices of the International Exhibition EXPO-2017 "Energy of the Future".
These first major events are included in the schedule of the most significant events of EXPO and will be held on the fields of the exhibition during June 11-14.
The Ministerial Conference and Forum is held by the Government of Kazakhstan and the KAZENERGY Association with the support of the UN Regional Commissions (ECE, ESCAP, ESCWA, ECA, ECLAC). Authoritative international organizations, including UNDP, UNDESA, SE4ALL, IRENA, IEA, IEC, UNIDO and others, are among the partners of the Conference and Forum.
The opening ceremony was attended by Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Olga Algayerova, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bereau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, the UN General Commissioner for Expo-2017 in Astana, Cihan Sultanoglu.
The organizers selected energy security, trade and infrastructure, the interconnection of energy, climate and food, as well as the development of renewable energy in the regional context, as the main topics of the forum and the ministerial conference.
On the first day of the event, the participants in the dialogue agreed that the transition to reliable energy supply in the future will have a fundamental impact on the quality of life of all mankind, but it will remain unattainable without technological breakthroughs and innovations.
Also, during the Conference, the UN supported the idea of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. He proposed the world community to create an international center for the development of "green" technologies and investment projects.
An important outcome of the Ministerial Conference will be the adoption of a ministerial statement with a number of specific measures to ensure the achievement of the goals of the global agenda for the period until 2030. The ministerial statement will form the basis for EXPO value manifesto - the main final document of the exhibition.
