Today in the city council two hymns of Ukraine and Europe sound simultaneously. The General Assembly of the Association of City-holders of the Prize of Europe is taking place in Kharkov. The first capital receives delegations from thirteen European cities. The last two years this Association is headed by the Mayor, Gennadiy Kernes, and Kharkov is the presiding city. Mayor presented his report which further was accepted by Delegates.
Joseph O'Reilly, Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Europe Prize of the Council of Europe:
"I am impressed very much by the Mayor of the City, by the ambitions he has for the future of the city and how much he does for realization of these ambitions. You do deserve the Europe Prize."
Kharkov was chosen as the presiding city and Gennadiy Kernes as the President of the Association of City-holders of Europe Prize in recognition of the implementation of international projects and high achievements.
Member of Ukrainian Parliament, Valeriy Pysarenko mentioned that the decision of extention of Kharkov power as the presiding city is a landmark event for all Kharkov citizens.
"It is the recognition of Kharkov as a strong European city. I think that the further steps of Kharkov are, for sure, the development of the European attitude to the processes that are taking place in the country today." The Mayor of the City said today that the trade agreement on the Association came into effect shall enter into force as soon as the visa-free agreement. It, of course, cannot affect what is happening today in Kharkov, and it will influence on the further development of the city. I really hope that we`ll see a new stream of tourists from the EU countries and we get the strengthening of economic relations" - the politician said.
